Bassak doll to practice customizing

Bassak doll to practice customizing
I got a Bassak doll on Amazon for a very low price. I wanted to practice customizing my own doll but the Blythe dolls are too expensive, even factory dolls. This poor doll had scratched eye chips and some thin hair so it made it perfect for trying out new things. This is my first attempt and I am really attached to her already. I held her up to my Blythe and her eye chips are not as bright or high quality. I knew anything I do to her would be as good or better than how she came to me. She did come in a lovely Basaak box with a clear plastic stand, shoes and 2 dresses. The eye mechanism worked well also. I put the pixie dress and orange Barbie shoes on her and the matching hair clips. I made the new pull string with hemp, since I kept breaking the other string I tried using. The hemp is tough and works so much better. I pierced her ears and made her a pair of earrings. I carved out a little around her mouth and nose just to get a feel for the carving. I blushed and freckled her face and gave her brows to match her hair color. I put some fake lashes on her. The doll was cute enough as she was and now she's just mine.
The Bassak body has seams like a Barbie and a few flaws typical of a lower priced doll. I do like how she can lift her arms to the side. The head always seems to be looking downward, but he waist is made so you can position her side to side. My plan was to do the most I could with craft items I already have around home and not spend too much money on a doll that is not the highest quality. But now I am thinking perhaps an Obitsu body is in order for this girl, a wig and some special eye chips?

I broke one of her eye chips trying to remove it with the glue stick method I saw on youtube. So I tried making my own chips with resin. It was okay for a first try. I used the one good chip to press a mold into the shape of an eye chip.

I painted one set of eye chips with glass paint to cover the scratches.
I still love a plain Blythe but this was lots of fun and she has really been sweet about it.

Completely computer generated and 3D printed ball-jointed doll on 1/12th scale

Wow! Look what came in the mail today. It is a completely computer generated and 3D printed ball-jointed doll on the 1/12th scale. I cannot wait to put this together and customize it for my dollhouse diorama. I got it from Shapeways and Mr Props shop. This is the link
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/mr_props
This doll you put together yourself, using tiny elastic cord or wires. I saw a tutorial for the dolls somewhere, but I am not sure if it was on Shapeways or youtube, maybe both. I really loved the tiny details in this. Hopefully, I will one day have time to do my own 3D printed doll from scratch. I have not got a 3D printer yet, but I do have a 3D pen and it is so creative and fun to have. I will be able to make some shoes for my doll.

Doll Chateau Sleepy Doll on 1:12 scale

I recently acquired a Doll Chateau Sleepy doll that is a 1/12th scale doll. I didn't order the doll myself but got it from someone who had a change of heart I suppose. The wait time to get her is months. The doll came in a nice small bag just for these dolls. Sleepy also had something like a birth card. The dolls come with only black beads for eyes and I knew that would be the first thing I would change out. I put beautiful little blue eyes in and blushed the doll with pink Conte chalk. I sprayed the doll a couple of times with Krylon Matte Finish. It isn't very difficult, because the doll is so tiny. I think getting the eyes in place is the most time-consuming event.
Sleepy accompanied me last night while I worked on my dollhouse. We even lit up the Christmas doll house nearby and pretended it was Christmas in July. Sleepy was fascinated with her new home. She posed for her picture to be made too. She says this home would be a nice place to stay.

My work light made everything look a little on the yellow side, but we were having fun taking pictures anyhow. Sleepy looks almost like an 1/8th scale in a 1/12th scale house. I think the 1/8th scale dolls suit the log cabin style homes more. The cabins seem to be more 1/8th scale than a true 1/12th scale.

Sleepy doesn't have much to wear yet. I wasn't sure what she would wear. She can wear Kelly/Barbie shoes but not the tiny ones from China. They must be the genuine Kelly type shoes. I found a pair of "Barbie" shoes that did fit her but they aren't really Barbie shoes, they are too small. The cute dog was a freebie. I was in a local dollar store one day at lunch, looking for some good snacks. I always check the toy section for something cool that goes with my dolls. I saw this little dog in a box of dinosaurs. I asked the store keeper "what is the price"? When I told him that it was lost in the dinosaurs, but I will pay a dollar for him, the store keeper said to keep him. I was not leaving without that dog no matter what. The dog looks just like my dog on the 1:1 scale.

I did another one of my doll blushings this weekend, while cooling off from all the yard work I needed to do. This time I used the pink Conte chalk in my box, because I wanted a more babyish look for this tiny elf doll. I gave her blonde eyelashes because that's really all I have. I got a special on 4 packs of doll eyelashes for 1 dollar. I thought they were pretty or I wouldn't have even paid that much. I got this poor blank doll secondhand with a pair of strange eyes. I put some eyes from another doll in her to see what works for me. I liked green the best. They came from a doll Chateau. I liked the iris sizes in these eyes. They are not so glaring and haunting to me. I looked at baby portraits to get an idea of how I wanted to blush her.  She came with 2 extra pairs of hands I blushed also. She fits well in my old log cabin I built a while back. The cabin seems to be more of an 1/8th scale than a 1/12th scale. This doll is an 1/8th scale doll. I am thinking of converting it into a fairy house for my tiny elf dolls. I got the wig with another doll a while ago. It feels and looks like a person's hair. I thought it looked kind of cute on her till I make something I like better.

I blushed her backside a little.
The tiny dolls pose well without much work at all. They seem to be sturdier unless they have skinny little bodies with those big heads. I really prefer fixing the doll up myself. I have noticed so much black makeup on such tiny baby dolls. It's super cute but not what I like.

DC BJD Zora

Zora can wear some Monster High Shoes, particularly those belonging to Cleo De Nile. Cleo's dress is very tight on Zora and a little too short. Because Zora's joints have a full range of motion that Cleo doesn't have, the dress keeps pushing up as a top. I think she would look good with some leggings or a skirt. The outfit does inspire me to create something more. Zora is difficult to dress with all those extra joints. She just wiggles and kicks all over the place. She has not yet been sueded but I got her to stand on carpet.

I bought a pack of "Barbie glasses" from China. They were even supposed to be all different colors. All I got was a pack of black eyeglasses that fit dolls like Liv doll, Zora, or Monster High. I usually expect surprises from these very low priced deals. I was delighted although most folks aren't so happy. Zora thinks she cool in these glasses.
Here she is getting some sunshine and pretending to be Cleo De Nile.
This is a close up of the shoe fitting. I have yet to attempt making heeled shoes for dolls. This seems to be a challenge for me. I can barely make flats. I got pretty upset one night when I finished some doll shoes and realized I had 2 lefties.
Here she is with her original green eyes. I usually like to change the eyes out but she looks okay for now. She is so pouty looking.

She's acting kicky again with those skinny legs.

She can wear some of the Zeenie Dollz things also. Even though it is hot outside she agreed to try on Zeenie Dollz clothes. The only problem I have with her wearing the rubber boots, is I worry I will break her feet off trying to get them back out of the boots. The clothes are cute though.

I got this poor little doll out of her box again today, trying to like her. She still has a funny cast to her under the indoors light, but she looks nice in natural lighting. I had her standing next to some of my quarter scale dolls and realized that I am always comparing the dolls to one another. The good thing about that would be I noticed she can wear a few clothes of theirs. The bad thing is I critique the dolls about various things like eye sizes and some dolls look too white or too orange. I am promising myself to just enjoy the dolls now. Although I did buy a package of different sized eyes for my dolls to determine which eye color and eye size complements them the best. One comparison is at the end of this post.
The 13" mini pal doll from an Effner sculpt can share a few things from the Goodreau MIM doll, and Minifee. Some of the skirts and pants that were already loose on Minifee didn't fit her and would easily fall down. The cheerleader out fit was a bit snug around the waist but okay.

 The panties fit too.

A jacket fit somewhat snugly.

I took Taylor's eye mechanism out and put green glass BJD eyes with eye putty in her to see if she would look different. She didn't really change much but I liked her. The first picture is with her MIM eyes and the second picture is with her green glass eyes.
The main difference without the eye mechanism is I can focus the eyes any way I want. The eye mechanism holds the eyes in one fixed position. I do love the big-eyed doll stare on this doll as much or more than any other look.
